Always Sometimes Monsters is an adventure game developed by Devolver Digital for the Play Station 4 platform. The game is based on a sad story of a struggling author who receives a note from his love, informing him of her upcoming wedding on the other side of the country. The player has a month to reach there and try to win back his love. However, the protagonist is going through a creative crisis and has been evicted from his apartment due to debts.
The game lasts for 30 virtual days, and the player has to complete one task each day. The choices made by the player affect the storyline, and each playthrough can be unique due to the different ways of achieving the goals. The game has a non-standard combat system and focuses more on building emotional connections with in-game characters. The character customization system is elaborate, allowing players to adjust gender, age, and sexual orientation, which affects how the main character reacts in the virtual world.
